Insulating Homes in Wiggins and Stone County

Spray foam insulation in Wiggins takes us north of the coast into Stone County, where the county seat sits in pine country along Highway 49. Wiggins incorporated in 1904 and boomed with the timber industry; the Finkbine Lumber Company was headquartered here. Away from the Gulf the summers are still long, hot and humid, and the climate is the same humid subtropical type as the coast.

Older homes in town

The 1910 fire burned more than half of the business district, but it stayed east of the railroad and spared most homes, which were built away from downtown. Older houses in town often have attics with thin, uneven insulation and wood floors over crawl spaces. We seal and top up the attic and look at the floor: encapsulating the crawl space or foaming under the subfloor.

Ranch homes and newer houses

Around town and out in the county, slab ranch houses and newer homes make up much of the stock. For those, the attic is where the savings are: sealing, ducts and depth, or foam on the roof deck if the ducts are overhead.

Shops and farm buildings

Stone County has lots of acreage, so metal shops, barns and equipment sheds are a big part of our work up here. Closed-cell foam keeps them cooler and stops dripping. If you are planning a new building, call before you order; we can help you think through the insulation plan. Get a free estimate

Wiggins Questions

Do you come up to Wiggins and the rest of Stone County?

Yes. Wiggins and the surrounding county are part of our regular area north along Highway 49.

What is the best way to insulate an older house on a crawl space?

Usually the attic first, then the floor. If the crawl space is enclosed and damp, encapsulation helps; if it is open, closed-cell foam under the floor works better.

Is it cooler in Wiggins than on the beach?

Summers inland are long, hot and humid too, and away from the Gulf's moderating effect afternoons can feel hotter. The insulation priorities are the same as on the coast: attic, ducts and anything under the floor.

Do you insulate pole barns with wood framing?

Yes. Closed-cell foam works on steel panels between wood posts and girts. We look at how the building is framed and price the walls and roof separately.
